Plaque psoriasis is a common type of arthritis. It is a type of autoimmune disease, where the body’s immune system misunderstands and attacks the healthy cells in the body. as a result of which, new skin cells start to grow at a rate that is faster than normal. This rapid formation of skin cells leads to is accumulation in form of thick patches.

What are the causes of Plaque psoriasis? Plaque psoriasis may develop due to the following reasons,

  • Due to stress
  • As a result of skin injuries
  • Effect of certain medicines
  • Having certain infections
  • Sunburn

What are the symptoms of plaque psoriasis? The various symptoms of plaque psoriasis include the following,

  • Raised and scaly patches
  • Plaques that are inflamed
  • A sliver to whitish coloured accumulation of dead skin cells on the patches
  • Dark and thick patches

Although plaques can appear anywhere on the patient’s body, they are most commonly spotted on the patient’s scalp, elbows, torso and knees. Plaque psoriasis is not a contagious disease and hence, it cannot spread by touching the patient.

Once diagnosed, the doctor will formulate a treatment plan to treat plaque psoriasis. This treatment plan for plaque psoriasis may include the following treatment.

  • Light therapy
